Moxabustion

Moxibustion (abbreviation moxa) is a technique from Traditional Chinese Medicine, in which specific herbs are burnt to heat acupuncture points and to enhance the Qi-Flow. It is a proven technique that has been applied for thousands of years in all of Asia and is sometimes also used in massage and other manual therapies.
In general, moxa will improve blood circulation, which accelerates healing and improves general health. You do not have to be ill to benefit from moxa treatment.
Moxa treatment is not given separately, but is always combined with acupuncture.

Moxa treatments are effective for:

  • general weakness
  • infertility
  • orthopaedic symptoms
  • disturbances of the gastro-intestinal tract
  • weak immunity

As well as using moxa herbs on acupuncture needles, we also work without needles using moxa sticks.  A moxa stick is used to stimulate with heat an acupuncture point or a spot that feels cold on the body and thus stimulate circulation and/or energy. Moxing is helpful for chronic pains, weakness, lack of energy, insomnia, joint pains and sexual problems.

The special thing about the plant from which the moxa herb is derived is that it burns slowly with intense heat but at the same time emits pleasant and beneficial infrared radiation. It also distributes heat and spreads a pleasant sensation. The moxa can be lit easily with matches, just like a cigar. They do not fall apart and after use they can be extinguished with salt (which means you can relight it the next time).
