I believe that when we avoid confronting our feelings, a kettle starts to simmer and eventually may boil over. This can lead to emotional exhaustion, depression, or burnout. Unprocessed experiences deeply affect the flow of energy and blood in our bodies. Our thoughts are powerful forces that influence our entire being and functioning.
I believe acupuncture – alongside or in combination with medication – can treat psycho-emotional issues in a natural, holistic, and fundamental way, without side effects. I also want to offer my patients a safe space where they can be fully themselves.
We are often taught to suppress painful experiences and emotions such as sadness, anger, fear, or guilt. This creates an imbalance between body and mind and stagnates energy. The consequences can be both physical and psychological:
A metaphor I like to use: a ship is not meant to stay in the harbor. After a turbulent journey at sea – through life events or challenges – it is important to return “home” within ourselves. Only then can we truly feel how we are doing.
My thesis in Physiotherapy focused on the perception of patients with eating disorders at UPC Kortenberg, emphasizing the interaction between body and mind. It revealed that women, in particular, struggle with a distorted self-image, heavily influenced by media and society (“thinness is perfection”).
During my postgraduate studies in acupuncture, my final project was on “Depression as a result of emotional imbalance.” I am motivated to address emotions because our changing environment makes depression increasingly common. Yet, talking about mental health remains taboo. Someone with a broken leg receives understanding; someone struggling emotionally often does not. Nearly 60% of people with psychological problems do not seek help.
Together, we can explore how you can fully embrace your strength in a natural, holistic way.
